our first scholarship recipient

Of all the essays we reviewed this year, there was one that stood out above the rest. Most of the essays were good, but this one...

This one was excellent.

To the review board, it was "Essay 7", but to Alice Post, it was her life, poured onto the page for admissions officers across the country.

The college that eventually wooed Alice's heart was UTDallas, where she'll start this fall.

Varun and I met with Alice on Tuesday to discuss college plans, high school memories and everything in-between.


When the conversation shifted towards the scholarship, Alice told us something interesting...

She's already getting a full ride.

"So what will UTD do with the check that we give them?"
"Um, I'm not really sure."
"Oh... well, that's interesting."

So we got to talking...

As we all know, education doesn't just happen in school - so Varun and I have dedicated this scholarship money to support some aspect of Alice's education - as for which aspect,

we're still figuring it out.

We'll start by talking to the people at UTD, to find out if we can support her education there (in a way that hasn't already been provided for).

Regardless of who will supply the education that Alice has earned in this scholarship, we're all looking forward to seeing what it will look like (and eventually seeing what Alice will do with this education).

Alice, we support you wholeheartedly.
